Continuing the series of sessions inspired by artwork on display at
Underdog Gallery, on Tuesday 11 September Art Model Collective will team
up with musicians to create a multi-sensory experience of Tudor Psychedelia for our life drawing crowd!
We will embrace the psychotropic pop-art take on European court painting inspired by Will Teather Solo Exhibition, โMaximalist Banquetโ (on show at The Underdog London
7-25 September). Behold Will’s fluorescent and supernatural
reinterpretations of Tudor portraits come to life through the costumed
poses from THREE models: Carla, Manko, and AMC regular, now our debutant model, Thomas Eliott! Plus a costumed cameo from Atomic’s John Dee.
But
thereโs more! For a truly immersive experience of life art fuelled by
live music, which has proved popular at Art Model Collective sessions,
musicians Takatsuna Mukai and JF Whitney will provide
improvised aural backdrops in the spirit of Tudor Psychedelia to
accompany the session. This will be a truly transcendental life drawing
experience!
Takatsuna Mukai
is a multi-instrumentalist/composer/producer, currently in the band
Call Cat with Hannah Marsden. Previous collaborators include Dragan
ลฝivadinov (NSK), Malcolm Poynter, and Kimatica Studio.
Musician, composer and artist JF Whitney
has performed around the world, appeared on 70+ record releases and
still found time to make more than 20 short films. Heโs played with
bands such as The Flaming Stars, Minxus, and The Urban Voodoo Machine.
Please join us for a feast of art, sound and life drawing in this medieval banquet at Underdog Gallery, just a few minute walk from London Bridge!

More about the exhibition:
Will
Theather is a British magic realist painter. After breaking sales
records at events such as the Other Art Fair, his debut one-man show
arrives in the capital. The show brings together works from across the
artists body of work, that are both refreshingly contemporary,
otherworldly and rooted in the mediumโs rich and complex traditions.
There
will be new collection of fractal paintings of increasing complexity.
These artworks use patterns implied in Old Masters paintings to explode
the original composition.
Sacred Geometry provides the
catalyst for Teather’s fractured images of old masters paintings, where
the underlying structures of historical paintings are used to explode
the original image into fragmented patterns. The results are psychedelic
with a great sense of movement, helping reveal new insights into
familiar artworks by the likes of Carravaggio and Manet.
The
artist has also played with other fundamental aspects that define
painting as a genre. This has included creating three-dimensional
paintings on globes and unusually formed canvases that employ an
innovative type of inverse perspective. These groundbreaking artworks
give a 360ยฐ view of a space across a painted sphere, blurring the
boundaries between painting and sculpture.
The title of
the show, Maximalist Banquet, refers to the painter’s interest in
excess and overloading his images with both subject matter, colour and
symbolism. This is evident in another new collection: the painter’s
fluorescent and supernatural reinterpretations of Tudor Portraits. These
are a sort of psychotropic pop-art take on European court painting,
that includes scenes of hell coming out of Henry 8th’s head.
