The Quay Players Perform Bring It On: The Musical

Break out the cheerleading outfits and show us some spirit fingers, Bring It On: The Musical is coming to the Greenwood Theatre, Southwark, between the 1stโ€”3rd of August.

Set in the high stakeโ€™s world of competitive cheerleading, Bring It On: The Musical tells the tale of Campbell Davis, a young cheerleader with big dreams of winning the National championships. But before this โ€˜it-girlโ€™ can lead her squad to victory, tragedy strikes. An unexpected redistricting has forced her to spend her final year of high school at the neighbouring, hard knock Jackson High School.

Despite the tables having been turned, Campbell befriends the Jackson dance crew girls along with their headstrong, feisty leader โ€” Danielle. Will Campbell and Danielle form the squad they need to win Nationals, or will their differences keep them apart?

I am so proud to present โ€˜Bring It On: The Musicalโ€™. This show combines fantastic music and lyrics with show-stopping dances and impressive stunts (from a cast who mostly had no experience of cheerleading before!) Directing is always a challenge but working with this cast has been a real pleasure – they are exceptionally talented, and I know the audience is in for a treat. As Campbell would say, this is what they were โ€˜Born To Do!

Director, Kate Hannam.

Bitingly relevant, sprinkled with sass, and inspired by the hit film, The Quay Players will take you on a high-flying journey filled with friendship, betrayal, love and forgiveness. Brought to you by some of the freshest, most creative minds on Broadway, Bring It On: The Musical features an original story by Tony Award winner, Jeff Whitty (Avenue Q), music and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda (In the Heights, Hamilton), music by Pulitzer- and Tony Award-winning composer, Tom Kitt (Next to Normal) and lyrics by Broadway lyricist, Amanda Green (High Fidelity) โ€” this is a summer show you wonโ€™t want to miss!

Greenwood Theatre

Built and owned by the Charitable Foundation of Guy’s Hospital following donations from Sir James Mantle Greenwood in 1975, the Greenwood Theatre is leased by King’s College London for lectures, student productions and external client bookings.

Fully air-conditioned, the raked auditorium seats 450 people. The stage is equipped with lighting and sound provisions and a full single purchase counterweight flying system for theatre productions. There are a total of 6 dressing rooms of various sizes, from small ‘principals’ rooms to large ‘warm-up’ rooms, plus a make-up/wardrobe room and board room for meetings.

The theatre is used extensively during the academic year, for lectures between 9am – 5pm and then student performances from 5pm – 11pm every weekday as well as rehearsals on Saturdays. During the summer months, usually May – September, the college’s demands of the theatre are much less.
