Scandi Art Trail Ann Simberg
Ann Simberg-Saunders
Ann Simberg-Saunders, whoย graduated in Fine Art Diploma at The Art Academy, curates a group show of Scandinavian artists in the Finnish Church. .
Ann is an artist from a Nordic country, so the landscape of her thoughts and ideas differ in many ways from the UK landscape. This landscape is where myths were made, where dark and mysterious caves and places exist. Where the powers of nature are ever present and mysterious beings still live. Where nights have a fragile, tender light, and where storms make you believe that Thor really does exist.
She paints in search of her identity in order to make sense of herself, her cultural heritage and place in the world.
She uses thin transparent veils of paint that drip, flow and fall, and then in contrast pushes heavy, thick impasto to sit next to it. She takes colour and forms that jar and rest against each other, and pull out of the tangle, a whole.
