People Care At Christmas Party

Don't Be Alone At Christmas

25 December 2015

Don’t be alone at Christmas, join the People Care Christmas party

Every year the festive season can be a hard time for local residents who might be on their own on Christmas Day. Thanks to Southwark People Care Association who hosts a Christmas Party for them, they will also be part of the celebrations.

The volunteer-run charity has been holding the party since before WWII – helping to reduce loneliness and social isolation for countless people over the years. They provide withย  a good traditional Christmas Dinner and lots of great entertainment as part of the festivities. Those residents who might need transport will be able to use the door-to-door travel, to and from the venue, facilitated by the Association.

  • Doors open from 11am on Christmas Day. There will be entertainment and tea so everyone can get in the festive mood
  • Christmas dinner is served from 1pm plus entertainment will continues after the meal

The party is held in the large Sports Hall at Baconโ€™s College, Timber Pond Road, Rotherhithe, SE16 6AT. (left hand side of Rotherhithe Tunnel entrance if driving). See map below.

Guest transport

Free transport to and from the venue for any guests living in the London Borough of Southwark. The service is provided with minibuses, including those designed for wheel chairs and passengers with disabilities. Volunteers also make pick-ups and drops-offs in their cars for people who are able to travel easily this way as there won’t be any public transport on Christmas Day

Give plenty of notice if you require transport and remember the deadline for booking a place is 16th December. Youโ€™re most welcome to turn up on the day if you live locally or can arrange your own transport, however booking is advised so that we can guarantee you a place.

Christmas Dinner

Guests will enjoy the traditional turkey with all the trimmings, or lamb as an alternative followed with traditional Christmas pudding or fruit. Vegetarian, Caribbean, Asian, diabetic or liquidised alternatives are available. They also provide a small glass of port, together with Stilton and biscuits to round off the meal.

When leaving, everyone is offered a light tea in a take away box and a grocery voucher so they can choose something to have in the next few days.

Entertainment

Thereโ€™s a free raffle on the day with lots of prizes, big and small plus there will be an entertainer so you may well find yourself singing or even dancing along to some old favourites!

Facilities and Assistance

Guests in wheelchairs will be pleased to know that Baconโ€™s College has disability-friendly facilities. Assistance from volunteers is on hand and an experienced agency carer, who is fully trained in manual handling and personal care, will be in the centre.
