During 17 & 18 September 2016, Open House London becomes the capital’s largest annual festival of architecture and design. The list of properties keep increasing every year.

Anise Gallery / AVR London

A Victorian spice warehouse, re-invented to house an architectural artwork gallery and an architectural illustrator’s studio. The design focuses on flexibility and workspace collaboration.

Brunel Museum

Dramatic staircase and new full size doorway leads down to underground chamber, award winning river gardens. Use your train ticket to view Thames Tunnel portico and travel through world’s first underwater shopping arcade and fairground, Saturday 5-11pm cocktails in roof garden with Midnight Apothecary. The Brunel Museum is housed in the Brunel Engine House, designed to be part of the infrastructure of the Thames Tunnel.

A civic centrepiece for the regeneration of the area around Canada Water. Its inverted pyramid form is an innovative response to providing an efficient single large library floor on a smaller footprint site.

CGP London / Dilston Grove

A former Clare College mission church, now contemporary art gallery and recently renovated, was the first concrete-poured building in England, now Grade II listed. 2010 renovation by Walter Menteth & Sherry Bates.

Display of Roman artefacts unearthed on site. Last entry 4pm. Max 20 per tour. Guy’s Cancer Centre Space is maximised using zoning and stacked ‘villages’, creating a visually striking addition to the London landscape. The first hospital in Europe to locate radiotherapy treatment above ground level.

Jerwood Space

Former Victorian school converted in contemporary idiom (Paxton Locher Architects 1998) to provide theatre/dance rehearsal facilities, plus striking gallery alongside a caf_ and glazed courtyard (the Glasshouse – Satellite Architects 2003). New studios and meeting rooms (Munkenbeck & Partners/Elliott Wood Partners 2007) on the restored top floor (lost to wartime bombing). Sustainable features include sedum roof.

Old Operating Theatre Museum & Herb Garret

St Thomas’ Church attic (1703) once part of old St Thomas’ Hospital, houses the Herb Garret and Britain’s only surviving 19C operating theatre.

Sands Films Studios & Rotherhithe Picture Research Library

Grade II listed riparian granary built with reclaimed timbers felled in 1700s. Converted in 1970s to picture library, film studios, prop and costume workshops. Oscar-winning international costume house for film, TV, theatre, opera, ballet.

The Low Line

The Old Mortuary

Situated in Rotherhithe Conservation Area. Retains many original features including a vaulted ceiling in Russell Hall, original doors, lantern skylight and iron girder in Varney Room (formerly post-mortem room), wooden panelling in chapel. Now community centre with local history group (Time and Talents Association).

The View from The Shard

The highest accessible point of the building at Level 72, an open-air viewing gallery 800ft/244m above ground, exposed to the elements, where guests are surrounded by the shards of glass forming the pinnacle of the building.

Unicorn Theatre

The first professional, purpose-built theatre for young audiences in UK. Described as an asymmetric pavilion, the building has transparent elevations revealing its core, and was designed in consultation with young people. RIBA Award Winner 2006.

Eight tessellating apartments built from in-situ concrete, arranged over half levels, incorporating the Solidspace DNA, generating a double height void, with more light, volume and character. The site is under construction with completion in 2017.
