Musica Antica present La Riturnella, live stream from Sands Films Studios 21 Feb 2021
Musica Antica Rotherhithe present a programme of arias and duets by three generations of Italian composers: Claudio Monteverdi, his student and successor as the greatest living composer of his time, Francesco Cavalli, and his student and most famous female composer of the age, Barbara Strozzi. The music of three composers who made their names in Venice is paired with beautiful and rarely-heard Calabrian folk songs of the period.
This performance also celebrates the release of βArias, Duets and Ensembles from the operas of Francesco Cavalliβ, edited and translated by director Oliver Doyle, and made available for free through the generosity of the Cavalli Charity.

About Mvsica Antica Rotherhithe
Musica Antica Rotherhithe was founded in 2016 by local musicians Oliver Doyle and Jessica Eucker, with the aim of bringing regular performances of Early Music to SE16.
While specialising in the performance of 17th Century chamber music, their repertoire extends into opera, and to the works of composers writing in the High-Late Middle Ages, often overlooked in programmes today
The concert will take place at the Holy Trinity Church in Rotherhithe. As ever, Home-infused Gins, wine and beer will be available before the performance and during the interval, the proceeds of which support Holy Trinity Church, Rotherhithe
