Musica Antica present Falvetti: Il Diluvio Universal
Musica Antica Rotherhithe give Falvetti’s Il Diluvio Universaleย its UK premiere. With anthropomorphised elements competing over the right to end mankind and a gleeful Grim Reaper eyeing victims, it’s comedy of the darkest kind. But its pivotal message is of hope and redemption, presented in gorgeous music, and through a tale – Noah’s Ark – that can be understood by all.
Thanks to the generosity of Mr WeeKuang Tai MNA, all ticket sales will support UK-based charity Operation Noah in inspiring action on climate change.
On 6th June 1682, a 36-hour deluge in Tortorici near Messina, Sicily, caused a flood so strong it tore down its church and all but a few houses, killing over 600 people. Falvetti’s oratorio, in which Divine Justice calls on the elements to punish man for its ruin of the earth, may never have lost its significance, but neither has it been more pertinent

Musica Antica Rotherhithe was founded in 2016 by local musicians Oliver Doyle and Jessica Eucker, with the aim of bringing regular performances of Early Music to SE16.
While specialising in the performance of 17th Century chamber music, their repertoire extends into opera, and to the works of composers writing in the High-Late Middle Ages, often overlooked in programmes today
The concert will take place at the Holy Trinity Church in Rotherhithe. As ever, Home-infused Gins, wine and beer will be available before the performance and during the interval, the proceeds of which support Holy Trinity Church, Rotherhithe

Holy Trinity Church is set in an ever changing part of the London Docklands, with new developments on the go or still on the drawing board. As such they also have an international community round-about us which is also ever changing, growing and developing.
