Construction Youth Budding Builders programme
On September 18th the Construction Youth Trust will be piloting a new two week/10 day Budding Builders programme designed to help young people begin a career in the construction industry. There are some changes to the recruitment, structure and delivery of the course so please read carefully below to make sure your client is eligible and completes full application process.
Recruitment
- The next programme will only be open to those aged 16-30 from Barnet, Brent, Camden, Ealing, Hammersmith & Fulham, Harrow, Kensington & Chelsea, Southwark and Westminster.
- Construction Youth apologies to those that have already sent through referrals from other boroughs, they will be kept on file for possible future courses.
- Students must have GCSE grade A-G in English & Maths or minimum Functional Skills Level 1 in English & Maths in order to apply
- All young people referred to course will be required to have a completed referral form (attached), an up-to-date CV and have photographic ID. If there are difficulties in obtaining any of these, e.g. no photo ID, then please get in contact with Stan Curran asap.

- Young people will be invited to a 90-minute Introduction Day prior to being accepted on the course
- If the referral form and CV are not received prior to the Introduction Day then the young person will not be invited to attend. Please not if a young person does not meet any of the entry criteria, please get in contact to discuss any issues in detail.

Introduction Day
- The Introduction Day will take place prior to the course and will differ from our previous Taster Days
- The Introduction Day will take place at 8:30am PROMPT on 13th September 2017. Latecomers run the risk of being turned away.
- We will only accept young people whose referral form and CV has been received by a member of CYT staff in advance
Telephone Interview
After the Introduction Day all students will have a short telephone interview with a member of the CYT staff; students will be reminded on the Introduction Day to expect a call
If the course are over-subscribed, Construction Youth will select the students they believe are most likely to benefit from the course on the basis of their commitment, attitude, punctuality, etc..
All young people will then be contacted again to be told whether or not they have been accepted on the course

The course times will be 9am – 3pm each day
Course Structure and Delivery
We are offering
- OCN Level 1 in Health and Safety in a Construction Environment
- CSCS training for green labourers card
- One to one employability support
- Construction training/work placement/employment brokerage
- Site Visit with Willmott Dixon
- Travel expenses up to ยฃ10 per day
- Lunch expenses
Please note only students who show appropriate commitment (eg at least 85% attendance and punctuality) throughout the programme will have their CSCS test booked/funded and will be put forward for employment, education and training opportunities.
There will be no practical training taking place as the focus will purely be on the Level 1 Health and Safety Award and CSCS training.

Getting there
Construction Youth Trust Bermondsey Training Centre, Building H, Drummond Road, Bermondsey, SE16 4EE
Bermondsey underground station is within walking distance and the area is served by bus routes north and south of Drummond Road. Canada Water and Surrey Quays station are not far away
