WISE16 has selected articles from the latest Bermondsey and Rotherhithe Community Council (BRCC) Newsletter sent on 06-04-2017 by Southwark Council. The BRCC provides a space for local communities in the Bermondsey and Rotherhithe areas to express their concerns, learn about Southwark council policies in those areas, get to know the local councillors and promote social and community activities by local charities and other organisations. Southwark Scholarship Scheme – deadline 9 April 2017
The 2017 Southwark Scholarship is now open โ make sure you apply before the deadline 9 April 2017.Our scholarship schemeย canย help you study atย university in your choice of courses. Sinceย our schemeย began in 2011,ย we’ve helped more than 60 people enrol in higher education.
The scholarship has supported students to study a variety ofย subjects, including medicine, engineering, economics, law and art.
This year arts and creative industries scholarships are also available for the Foundation Diploma in Art and Design at UALโs Camberwell College of Arts and Certificate of Higher Education at London South Bank University.
Who can apply
The Southwark Scholarship scheme is offered to students who meet the following criteria:
- this must be your first degree
- you must have a good academic record of achievement
- you must have made a positive contribution to the community of Southwark
- you must have been a resident in Southwark for the last three years
- you must have a household income of less than ยฃ25,000

Step Up to Social Work! Be the difference in the heart of London

A great opportunity has opened up for residents looking to make the move into a rewarding career in social work.
The South East London Teaching Partnership (Southwark, Greenwich and Lewisham councils and Goldsmiths, University of London) has signed up to a national scheme run by the Department for Education, which pays all course fees and a bursary to successful candidates signing up to an intensive 14 month course
You are eligible to apply for this programme if you can demonstrate you already have:
- A minimum 2:1 level 6 degree qualification
- Or, an honours degree plus a higher degree (level 7 or above)
Plus
- Grade C or above GSCE in English/ English Language and Maths (or recognised equivalent)
- Experience of working with children, young people and families

Southwark Giving
Southwark Giving is a place-based giving scheme for the borough of Southwark. It is currently being set-up to find new ways to address hidden, unmet and emerging local community needs.
The needs of the borough have been independently researched and the findings form a report entitled A Tale of Two Southwarks. Southwark Giving will enable anyone to give time, skills and/or money in collaboration with others to help unite Southwark to tackle local disadvantage

Bermondsey and Rotherhithe Community Council Forum Meetings
The next Bermondsey and Rotherhithe Community Council Forum Meeting will be on Wednesday 3 May 2017 at 7pm.
